Mandolin Camp North - Comments and Kudos
Thanks Mike for coordinating a great weekend I had a blast. Looking fwd to next year... BP
I consider myself so fortunate to have participated in MCN. Thank you again... RK
Thank you for your kind words about me and the kids. I can't begin to describe the great things we got out of the weekend...and I'm sure it will continue. One thing that set the camp apart was the concept of the "help desk" that was manned by various faculty all the time. That was an excellent thing. I was able to talk to a couple of people about 'band things' and gained a lot of insight. KM
Thank you so much. I had the best time at the Camp. I thought you did a great job organizing the weekend. It definitely exceeded my expectations. The workshops were fabulous. I learned quite a bit. I took classes from John McGann, Martin Grosswendt and Sam Bush and I was really impressed with the instructors and how much useful information they were able to convey in a short time period. I think my favorite class was the Electric Mandolin workshop with Sam. He was incredible on his Fender. He also showed us a lot of useful techniques and gave us great advice on equipment and string choice etc. He was so entertaining too, he had many funny stories about his experiences and the musicians that he has worked with during his career. Sam spent a lot of time talking to us after class and was extremely encouraging. What a nice guy! I also enjoyed the faculty concerts and the jamming. I was sad when the weekend was over. I am looking forward to next year. PW
I have to agree that the Mando Camp North was excellent. The instruction was excellent, food good, and all of the teachers and artists were very helpful and personable. Where else could you hear with this many top notch pickers all at once, as well as learn from them. Thanks to Mike, all of the artists and instructors, and the students as well. JD
Ditto to everyone who's written in about how great the Camp was - I thought I was crazy about the mandolin before, now I'm completely obsessed! Thanks also to everyone for their kind encouragement. Looking forward to next Mando Camp! MW
As an event planner in the past, I have to commend all of the organizers of Mando Camp North on many different points. The quality, quantity and variety of the sessions was impressive. The detail that was included for each (level, brief description, presentation vs workshop) was short, sweet, to the point and so very useful. The mix of instructors was equally as well done. Creating that many sessions is not an easy thing to do. Sessions started on time all weekend ... amazing. The evening concerts were great. The post concert jams were a nice touch and very enjoyable Great staff of instructors ... approachable, friendly, talented and inspiring. All of this made for a relaxed, laid back setting for music to happen. I hope to see many of you at the summers fests (Great Blue Heron & Greyfox for me).... and I will for sure see you back at Mando Camp North next year. I am already counting the days. PL
I just wanted to personally thank you for a spectacular mandolin workshop weekend. I had a great time at Mandolin Camp and I plan on attending next year so please keep me in mind as soon as tickets go on sale. All of the instructors were great and they took the time to show me one on one when I was stuck on learning a phrase. I liked Skip Gorman and Richie Brown the best. Well again Mike thanks for a great three day weekend, and I hope to see you again next year. RC
I had no idea on what to expect from this event, it was just a wonderful experience. The sessions were terrific, and the jamming was amazing, I am so glad to have been a part of the first Mandolin Camp!! GE
In the Navy there is a tradition that if you are in the first crew to man up a new ship and you take it out on its maiden voyage then you are called a Plank Owner of that ship. Usually it says plankowner on your ship's ball cap. We are all Plank Owners for Mando Camp North. We took her out on her maiden vayage and she exceeded all expectations. To Mike and Martin...Bravo Zulu on a job well done. MT
