There are more than 1800 entries in this file. They consist of makers, patentees, and brandnames. (A few foreign locations will be found in the list. These are for American patents issued to foreign inventors.) I have spent nearly 30 years compiling and collecting this information. It represents many thousands of dollars and uncountable hours spent. The information as presented is copyrighted by the author and is published here for your comments and personal use, but it is not to be copied or posted anywhere else on the internet or published in an article, magazine, book or any other form. Acknowledgements: This work had as its genesis, the 200+ names of banjo makers collected by Stu Cohen, and first published in the July, 1972 issue of Mugwumps magazine. My thanks to Stu for his continued friendship and encouragment. The catalyst to expand Stu's original collection, and to include not-just-banjo-makers, came in the form of a suggestion from Chuck Perdue, during a folklore course I took one Summer, and submit it as my term paper -- here it is, a little late, but a lot bigger than either of us ever expected. Some information came from other collectors -- Jim Bollman in particlular -- but I did the bulk of the research and all of the compilation, and therefore any errors are mine.
